Karen Feng | INTERNAL PRESIDENT
Biomedical Engineering, '17, Senior
​

Born in New York and raised in Idaho, Karen was excited for the opportunities and cultural diversity UM offered. She joined SASE in the spring of her sophomore year in hopes to develop her leadership skills. Within SASE, she not only formed relationships with talented individuals, but also expanded her horizon to the professional world. She also loves SASE because of it's members' diverse heritage. Seeing potential in SASE, Karen hopes to increase the opportunities and resources available to its members who want to prepare for their careers. As the internal president of SASE, she manages activities and  relations on campus. Although she studies engineering, she's a premedical student and volunteers at the Holtz Children's Hospital.  She is also involved in UM's photography club.

Prutha Patel | EXTERNAL PRESIDENT
Microbiology and Immunology, '17, Senior

Family has always been important for Prutha growing up and she hopes to share these values with SASE members at the University of Miami to form a unique SASE family. Through SASE, She hopes to create a network of bright students who help each other and work together to succeed professionally. As external president, she coordinates with regional coordinators to keep her chapter updated on the latest SASE national information and reports to the directors with accomplishments or struggles the UM chapter may be facing in hopes of building the UMiami SASE chapter to its greatest potential. Prutha is also the president of the Students Helping Animals organization on campus and is a pre-med student.

Laurel Anderson | VICE PRESIDENT
Neuroscience, '19, Sophomore

Laurel joined UM SASE in Fall 2015 as a Freshman, and was elected as the Vice-President in Spring 2016, due to her dedication to SASE's mission statement: to empower those of Asian heritage to excel in the workplace and to make beneficial contributions in society. As the Vice-President of UM SASE, Laurel provides strategic conduct of the club’s Company Outreach Program and manages the Mentorship Program between new and experienced SASE Members. She also engages in tasks that maximize the efficiency of the club’s operations. Other involvements include: The Howard Hughes Medical Institute Program and The Miami Project to Cure Paralysis.

Naveen Kumaran | SECRETARY
Biomedical Engineering, '18, Junior

Spending a majority of his life in northern California, Naveen came to UM to experience something different and unique. He initially joined SASE in order to become more involved on campus and prepare himself for work and adulthood. Upon joining, he quickly forged new friendships and got a taste of the professional life. His passion and dedication for this organization is a result of the quality time he spent with the SASE family. Naveen hopes to give SASE members more outreach into their prospective careers as well as provide guidance and support to those who need it. As the secretary of the UM SASE chapter, Naveen manages club records and keeps the club informed about upcoming events. Aside from SASE, Naveen is also active in the UM Badminton team, spending a good amount of his week training for yearly tournaments. After undergrad, he plans on pursuing a master’s degree in biomedical engineering before going into the industry.

Jon Zhou | TREASURER
Software Engineering, '19, Sophomore

Jonathan Zhou first encountered with SASE when he accidentally walked into their first general body meeting while looking for a different club’s meeting. However, he did not join until spring semester with influence from SASE’s president Sonny. Since then Jon has been a committed member to SASE, attending his first SASE regional conference in 2016 and running for treasurer position. He hopes to improve the chapter to become well known and help undergraduates develop professionally. Formerly a biomedical engineering major, Jon switched to software engineering, reflecting his interest in potentially creating a game of his own. Outside of SASE, Jon likes to work out at the gym to maintain a healthy lifestyle and occasionally dances for fun. While at UM, Jon hopes to try every every type of food Miami has to offer and enjoy Miami's sporting events.

Xinxin Rong | WEBMASTER
Computer Science, '19, Sophomore

Born in Ji'nan Shandong Province,China. Xinxin joined SASE in September 2015. She feels lucky to find a big family of scientists because she can show her special skills of coding fully and have more opportunities to find amazing internships. SASE also gives her a chance to talk with professional people and plan her better future. As a Chinese student, Xinxin participate Chinese Students and Scholar Association. And she join the architecture fraternity Alpha Rho Chi for her interest. Her dream job is working for google and find new algorithms.

Jonathan Lo | FUNDRAISING COMMITTEE
Neuroscience and Public Health, '18, Junior

A native of South Florida, Jonathan sought to develop a greater sense of cultural awareness and extend his interpersonal skills during his undergraduate years at UM. He joined SASE in hopes of fostering professional as well as personal development through networking with student peers and scientific professionals. Jonathan aspires to help uphold an environment where students of diverse backgrounds and similar career paths can connect and support each other. As a part of the fundraising committee, he ensures strategic agenda planning and implementation of efforts to raise money for SASE. Also a premedical student, he participates in neurology research on the UM med campus and co-founded a pre-health student organization called HOSA.

Jiawei Chen| FUNDRAISING COMMITTEE
Chemistry, '18, Junior

Jiawei was born in Urumqi, the Northwestern part of China, and chose UM for his college life because he wanted to experience a different life in different country and different environment. He joined SASE in September 2015 in order to gain his social experience as he first considered. At the beginning, he was not very devoted to the entire organization because of his personality that he was not a social person. However, by joining in some kinds of activities, SASE gradually has become part of Jiawei's life and has influenced his personality to make more friends. Later on until right now, Jiawei chooses to join SASE not only just to make more friends, but because of the importance to his future. The SASE Regional and National Conferences are very important for him to know the transitions from college to actual company after graduation and to know deeply the future direction for himself. The career fair during each conference is also important for him to get deep contact to the company faculty to know more about the company. After graduation from UM, Jiawei will get a year of internship opportunity and pursue the master and the phd for chemical engineering on products and materials. Outside SASE, Jiawei likes watch sports and play sports. His favorite sport and basketball and his favorite team is Miami HEAT, which is one of the reasons why he chose UM.

Devin Luka| FUNDRAISING COMMITTEE
Mathematics, '18, Junior

From Pembroke Pines, Florida, Devin stayed close to home when choosing to go to UM. After switching majors twice Devin finally found his calling as a math major because he found it both challenging and fun with its infinite applications. Devin first joined SASE during his sophomore year, because he thought that it would help him explore what kind of career opportunities were available to him and it also felt like a very friendly close-knit environment. After the 2016 SASE regional conference Devin learned a lot about new career opportunities and internships that were available him as a math major. As a member of the SASE fundraising committee, Devin helps take care of the financial aspect of fundraising by organizing the prices of materials need to fundraise. Besides SASE Devin likes to go to the gym, play basketball, and spend time with friends. After his undergraduate education Devin wants to learn even more about mathematics and its applications in graduate school.

Ryan Cheng| MARKETING DIRECTOR
Computer Engineering, '20, Freshmen

Born in the Florida Keys and raised in Miami, Ryan was excited to jump into college life. He joined SASE in the Fall of 2016 to connect with other driven individuals. As the Marketing Director, Ryan hopes to link other new freshmen with a network of students that can provide guidance and insight into the professional world. Although SASE is an academic group, Ryan's favorite thing about the group is the casual friendly atmosphere. He is also in the Badminton Club and UCook. In the future, he hopes to make people smile.
