Laurel Anderson | PRESIDENT
Neuroscience, '19, Sophomore

Laurel joined UM SASE in Fall 2015 as a Freshman, and was elected as the Vice-President in Spring 2016, due to her dedication to SASE's mission statement: to empower those of Asian heritage to excel in the workplace and to make beneficial contributions in society. As the Vice-President of UM SASE, Laurel provides strategic conduct of the club’s Company Outreach Program and manages the Mentorship Program between new and experienced SASE Members. She also engages in tasks that maximize the efficiency of the club’s operations. Other involvements include: The Howard Hughes Medical Institute Program and The Miami Project to Cure Paralysis.

Naveen Kumaran | VICE PRESIDENT
Biomedical Engineering, '18, Junior

Spending a majority of his life in northern California, Naveen came to UM to experience something different and unique. He initially joined SASE in order to become more involved on campus and prepare himself for work and adulthood. Upon joining, he quickly forged new friendships and got a taste of the professional life. His passion and dedication for this organization is a result of the quality time he spent with the SASE family. Naveen hopes to give SASE members more outreach into their prospective careers as well as provide guidance and support to those who need it. As the secretary of the UM SASE chapter, Naveen manages club records and keeps the club informed about upcoming events. Aside from SASE, Naveen is also active in the UM Badminton team, spending a good amount of his week training for yearly tournaments. After undergrad, he plans on pursuing a master’s degree in biomedical engineering before going into the industry.

Jonathan Lo |  VICE PRESIDENT
Neuroscience and Public Health, '18, Junior

A native of South Florida, Jonathan sought to develop a greater sense of cultural awareness and extend his interpersonal skills during his undergraduate years at UM. He joined SASE in hopes of fostering professional as well as personal development through networking with student peers and scientific professionals. Jonathan aspires to help uphold an environment where students of diverse backgrounds and similar career paths can connect and support each other. As a part of the fundraising committee, he ensures strategic agenda planning and implementation of efforts to raise money for SASE. Also a premedical student, he participates in neurology research on the UM med campus and co-founded a pre-health student organization called HOSA.

Jon Zhou | TREASURER
Software Engineering, '19, Sophomore

Jonathan Zhou first encountered with SASE when he accidentally walked into their first general body meeting while looking for a different club’s meeting. However, he did not join until spring semester with influence from SASE’s president Sonny. Since then Jon has been a committed member to SASE, attending his first SASE regional conference in 2016 and running for treasurer position. He hopes to improve the chapter to become well known and help undergraduates develop professionally. Formerly a biomedical engineering major, Jon switched to software engineering, reflecting his interest in potentially creating a game of his own. Outside of SASE, Jon likes to work out at the gym to maintain a healthy lifestyle and occasionally dances for fun. While at UM, Jon hopes to try every every type of food Miami has to offer and enjoy Miami's sporting events.
